What your child practises

Counting to 20 forward and back from any number, recognizing small groups at a glance, and comparing two numbers.

Newfoundland and Labrador Curriculum curriculum outcome: Number sense and number theory (by Grade 3) · saying the number sequence by 1s to 20

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practise.

  1. Count each thing once. Do not skip any.
  2. To count on, say the next number: 14, then 15.
  3. Counting back goes the other way: 15, 14, 13.

Example: What is 1 more than 14? Count on from 14. The next number is 15. Answer: 15
