Units
Unit 1
Be a Scientist
Asking a science question, predicting, observing with the senses, picking a tool such as a ruler or magnifying glass, and telling what was found out.
Expectation: B12.1–B12.4 · asking questions, making predictions and observations, choosing tools and sharing what we find out
Unit 2
Safe Scientists
Safety rules for exploring and playing, such as wearing a helmet, telling a grown-up after a bump to the head, and never tasting science materials.
Expectation: B12.6 · following safety rules to help prevent injuries, including concussion
Unit 3
What Living Things Need

Expectation: B13.2 · sorting and classifying living and non-living things
Unit 4
Animal Features
Noticing body parts like fur, feathers, fins and shells, and how features help animals and plants live where they do.
Expectation: B13.1, B13.2 · describing animals and plants and sorting them by what we observe
Unit 5
Natural & Built Places
Telling natural places from built ones, noticing what happens in nature (rain, melting, falling leaves) and spotting patterns such as stripes, spots and bricks.
Expectation: B13.1, B13.3 · describing natural occurrences and comparing patterns in natural and built environments
Unit 6
Materials
Describing everyday materials (soft or hard, rough or smooth, bendy or stiff), what sinks or floats, and naming what things are made of, like wood, metal, glass and cloth.
Expectation: B12.3, B13.2 · describing and sorting materials and choosing them for a job
Unit 7
Push & Pull
Telling pushes from pulls, and seeing how a bigger push, an object's shape and its weight change how it moves.
Expectation: B12.2 · making predictions and observations while exploring how things move
Unit 8
Weather & Seasons
Dressing for the weather, the four seasons in order, day and night, and how plants and animals change with the seasons.
Expectation: B13.1, B13.3 · describing weather, seasons and day and night as natural occurrences and patterns
Unit 9
Build & Test
Making a plan, choosing the right materials, building a model or structure, testing it and making it better.
Expectation: B12.3, B12.5 · choosing materials and tools, and designing, building and testing models and structures
Unit 10
Follow the Steps
Unplugged coding: words like up, down, left, right, above and below, following arrow instructions in order, and fixing mistakes in a set of steps.
