Shapes & Sizes
Shapes, big and small
What your child practises
Naming flat shapes and solid objects by one feature (sides, corners, rolls or not), and comparing things by size, height, length, weight and how much they hold.
BC Curriculum learning standard: Single attributes of 2D shapes and 3D objects; direct comparative measurement (e.g., linear, mass, capacity)
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practise.
- A circle is round with no corners.
- A triangle has 3 sides.
- A square and a rectangle each have 4 sides.
Example: Which shape has 3 sides? Count the sides on each shape. The triangle has 3. Answer: The triangle
